Teacher, Lower Elementary

Tamara Austin is one of our lower elementary teachers and has taught our 2nd and 3rd grade classes. Tamara joined the Bridges staff in 2014 while also substituting for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. Tamara received her bachelor’s degree in English from Humboldt State University in 2006. She then became a copy editor and managing editor for a small hobby magazine while earning a Technical and Professional Communications Certificate from Cal State University, Long Beach. As a managing editor, Tamara was involved in the publishing process of articles from manuscript to print and gained a discerning eye for detail that she brings to each student’s writing produced at Bridges. After nearly four years in the editing field, Tamara went on to receive her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at Cal State University, Long Beach, where she was able to develop lesson plans to meet the Common Core State Standards. With her background in editing and teaching, Tamara enjoys helping students throughout the reading and writing process. She is dedicated to ensuring each student walks away with tools and a framework for writing clear, concise, and impactful texts. On her free time, Tamara likes to watch movies, work out at her local CrossFit gym, and cook healthy meals. In May 2014, she and her team won third place in the Badges for Life California Fitness Games competition in Huntington Beach.
